Rutgers, the State University of NJ is accepting applications for a 36-month training program in laboratory animal medicine and comparative medicine.  This program is for graduate veterinarians who wish to pursue a career in laboratory animal medicine and comparative medicine.  This is a full-time staff position that will prepare trainees for board certification by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM).  The program involves formal coursework, clinical veterinary and administrative duties and the opportunity to pursue research in the trainee’s area of interest.  Trainees are encouraged to enroll in the graduate school and may begin work on an advanced degree in a related discipline.  Trainees wishing to pursue a graduate degree beyond the 36-month training program must arrange for separate support.

Laboratory Animal Services is a service organization providing support to faculty members who conduct animal research in a wide range of disciplines including biomedical research, agriculture and environmental sciences.  Reporting to the Director of Laboratory Animal Services, the trainee’s duties will include clinical care, provision of diagnostic services, oversight of applicable laws and regulations, participation on the animal care committee and animal facility management.  The growing research program at Rutgers is conducted on a wide range of species including rodents and rabbits, birds, amphibians and reptiles, nonhuman primates, deer and farm animal species. All animal facilities and programs at Rutgers are AAALAC accredited.

Applicants must have a veterinary degree (DVM, VMD) or equivalent from an accredited school.  A U.S. license to practice veterinary medicine is required.  Applicants with at least one year of post-DVM clinical experience are preferred.  This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track position.  Salary range:  $41,812 to $62,778 based on experience and using NIH Postdoctoral Fellow guidelines.
